The New Jersey Auto Owners Association today demanded that David Gutwill,
owner of Ultimate Car Care in Fair Lawn, NJ, and Samuel Polyak, owner of
Polykup, immediately return a wrongfully held Acura NSX to its rightful owner —
a 90-year-old stroke survivor.
The classic sports car was originally entrusted to Polykup for a premium Tesla
battery EV conversion. According to eyewitness testimony from Pavel
Bankouski, who worked directly with Polyak, the shop instead used salvaged
Chevy Bolt batteries from a junkyard — materials not specified in the contract.
Chevy Bolt batteries have been linked to serious fire risks, leading to massive
nationwide recalls and multi-million-dollar settlements by General Motors due to
their known flammability and safety concerns. 177 thousand Chevy Bolts were
recalled amidst serious concerns about lethal risk the cars posed to drivers.
“As an experienced EV conversion specialist, Mr. Polyak would have been fully
aware of these dangers,” said a spokesperson for the New Jersey Auto Owners
Association. “Using substandard junkyard batteries in a vehicle owned by a
vulnerable 90-year-old stroke survivor constitutes fraudulent workmanship and
placed the owner and his family at serious risk of injury or worse.”
Facing issues with the project, Polyak then transferred the Acura NSX to David
Gutwill at Ultimate Car Care in Fair Lawn, NJ. Gutwill has refused to release
the vehicle to its lawful owner despite repeated requests. A background check
on Mr. Gutwill revealed Mr. Gutwill has an extensive criminal background
including convictions for Fraud, Witness Tampering, Money Laundering, and
Witness Tampering. The New Jersey Auto Owners Association finds reason to
be seriously concerned about Mr. Gutwill and Mr. Polyak’s conduct in this
matter.
Our Demands
“New Jersey car owners deserve trustworthy repair shops that use agreed-
upon parts, complete work on time, and respect consumer rights — especially
when dealing with elderly and vulnerable residents,” the association stated.
The group is urging anyone with information about this case or similar
experiences with Ultimate Car Care or Polykup to contact the New Jersey Auto
Owners Association.

Jersey Auto Owners Association website or contact us directly.
